Die Hochschule signalisiert nach außen, dass sie zu einem Ort geworden ist, an dem Schrift- und Buchkultur als eine der zentralen kulturellen Errungenschaften der Menschheit begriffen und auch so vermittelt wird. Unterrichtet wird hier nach dem Grundstudium in der Klasse für Illustration, wo das gezeichnete Bild stark im Vordergrund steht, der Klasse für Typedesign, also Schriftgestaltung, der Klasse für Typografie, welche Plakat- und Buchtypografie im Fokus hat, und der Klasse für Systemdesign, welche stärker medienübergreifende komplexere Gestaltungsaufgaben verfolgt. Das bedeutet, dass die ganzen Kompetenzen in Richtung Visuelle Kommunikation mit der Zielstellung der Maximierung von Vermarktungs-, und Aufmerksamkeitsstrategien etc. hier nie wirklich Raum gefunden haben.
