Eine der Methoden zur Lösung dieses Problems ist die Verbesserung des Kraftstoffs durch Modifizierung oder Neuformulierung seiner Zusammensetzung. Zu diesem Zweck wurden Versuche durchgeführt, bei denen die Leistung, die Emissionen und der Kraftstoffverbrauch eines Dieselmotors mit Selbstzündung durch die Verwendung einer Kraftstoffmischung aus Diesel und Nanopartikeln verändert wurden. Die Verwendung von Nanoadditiven führte zu einer Verringerung des Kraftstoffverbrauchs und zu geringeren NOx-, HC- und CO-Emissionen als beim Basis-Kraftstoff. Eine alternative Methode zur Analyse und Vorhersage im Bereich der Technik, insbesondere bei Verbrennungsmotoren [55-58], ist die Verwendung künstlicher neuronaler Netze (KNN). Die ANN-Simulation hat sich aufgrund ihrer Einfachheit, Genauigkeit und Konvergenzrate im Vergleich zu numerischen Verfahren in vielen technischen Anwendungen durchgesetzt, insbesondere bei der Verarbeitung unscharfer und komplexer Datenbanken. Die ANN-Modellierung wurde verwendet, um eine Korrelation zwischen Bremsleistung, Kraftstoffverbrauch, HC, CO und NOx unter Verwendung unterschiedlicher Mengen an Nanopartikeln und Geschwindigkeiten als Eingabedaten vorherzusagen.
