Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - What could an HIV cure mean Holding HIV shares the raw, poetic voices of 27 San Francisco community members living with or affected by HIV. Born from the HOPE Research Collaboratory's Community Arts Integrated Research program, this collection reveals poetry's power to distill life's profound joys, deep anguish, and everyday realities into a roadmap for cure research-where hope and fear collide, and resilience becomes the heart of progress. As part of an HIV cure research project, participants created clay 'holders' as artistic responses to the 'Block-Lock-Stop' strategy (an epigenetic approach to permanently inactivate HIV) and to two questions-'What excites you about an HIV cure ' and 'What are your fears regarding an HIV cure ' Three poets then translated participants' discussions about their art, contextualizing hopes and anxieties alongside the devastating 2025 United States' federal HIV funding cuts. These narratives are more important than ever as ongoing challenges to HIV research and prevention threaten the significant progress of recent decades.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'Portrait of a City' braids together two projects by artist Dean Sameshima-zu verschenken (2020-ongoing) and Still Life (2022-23)-in a composite book-work which constitutes a poignant meditation on the city of Berlin and its changing cultural landscape. The images in 'Portrait of a City' address both public and queer spaces through the lens of the everyday, bridging notions of community, connection, desire and consumption. While studying under Allan Sekula at CalArts in the early '90s, Sameshima photographed the exteriors of queer sex clubs and bathhouses around Silverlake, Los Angeles, as well as notorious cruising areas nearby. Decades later, in Still Life the artist depicts the waste and intimate detritus left inside Berlin's local Sex Kinos, spaces now also in jeopardy. While the subject matter may differ, zu verschenken nevertheless still concerns the intersection of public and private, and finds Sameshima cruising the quotidian, surveying a civic identity in flux.Additionally, the publication features a newly commissioned text by Berlin-based writer and programmer Lina Martin-Chan. Beyond tracing the genesis of each project and their place within Sameshima's broader oeuvre, in her text Martin-Chan also posits a reading of the two projects as gifts in the Freudian sense - choosing between bodily pleasure and object love, and how we learn about exchange as infants.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Ma is a curriculum. The Japanese concept of ma refers to the interval between two markers. Ma is somatically constructed by a deliberate, attentive consciousness to what simultaneously is expressed, repressed, or suppressed between two structures. In a dialectic exploration, the spaces between-private/public, teacher/student, old/new, self/other, among others-are probed in ways that contribute to the significant research in teaching and learning that has been undertaken in the last few decades.Material culture is the study of belief systems, behaviours, and perceptions through artefacts and physical objects and is central to the socialization of human beings into culture. The analysis of cultural materials offers sites for concretizing the self and the self in context. New materiality challenges assumptions and clichés and allows for possibilities not yet imagined, perhaps even inconceivable possibilities. New materiality approaches accept that matter itself has agency. As such, this book investigates the intersections at the core of ma, engagements wherein the investigations create something new, in order to demonstrate the layers of the teaching and learning self.Interpretations of the concept of ma articulate new definitions to improve the conditions, practices, products, and pedagogies of being a teacher/learner in the twenty-first century. Ma is a site for epistemological understandings, threshold learnings, and self and curriculum becomings.…
