Erstausgabe
Original wraps. Zustand: Very good. First Edition. 5p octavo illustrated with folding map. Hunter prepared the map from Col. John Herbert's map of the Cherokee country .who was a surveyor. The several printed notes are his valuable additions and observations which refute the myth about a Cherokee Indian maiden bearing the mythical name Catechee who rode to a mythical fort to warn a lover that the Indians were coming to nassacre the garrison and the settlers, and who named the streams as she reached them, on the basis of the number of miles she had traveled, Ninety Six being one of the names she applied. A good copy in green printed wraps faded along the spine, tiny holes by 2 of the staples. Map very good to fine detached with a closed tear. This is No 4 of the Bulletins of the Historical Commission of South Carolina. Very scarce in commerce.
