Soft cover. Zustand: Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Portuguese, English and Chinese text; Paperback; 24x 27,8 cm; 1,957 Kg; 331 pages with colour illustrations.; Used with signs of wear on the exterior.; Catalogue from the exhibition held at Fundacao Oriente, Lisbon, Portugal in 1998.; "During its ten years of existence, the Fundacao Oriente has striven to rekindle and intensify the ties which connected us to the Orient and which hold a decisive place in the Portugal's history. Perhaps, it may not even be possible to think about Portuguese history without including the ocean and the Orient. The Porcelain Route exhibition, which the Fundacao Oriente is proud to display and is only possible due to the pieces kindly lent by institutions and collectors, bears witness to the Portuguese presence in the Orient and expresses praise of the oceans that made possible Portugal's dialogue with the world." excerpt from the presentation by Carlos Augusto Pulido Valente Monjardino, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Fundacao Oriente, 1998.

Soft cover. Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. Two issues of this superbly produced magazine of art and architecture published in Spain. Each about 400 pages, text mostly in Spanish but with much in English as well. Many photographs and reproductions in color and black and white, truly a dense and deep publication. In excellent condition for the most part, with some bumping at the corner tips in parts of both at the bottom and slightly larger bump to the upper corner of about 1/2 of issue 4, still not effecting the text or images much. Issue 4 has a little bump about the spine edge which does not effect the binding whatsoever. Minor sun fading to spine of both issues. Some light scuffs and scratches to the covers of both but hardly so and in clean presentable condition. Oddly both covers present the number of the previous issue, so that issue 3 has the number 2 on the front and issue 4 has the number 3. The theme of number 3 is "habitacion / room" and the theme of number 4 is "casa / house." Issue 3 contributors are Colexio Oficial de Arquitectos de Galicia Craig Kalpakjian, Erwan Bouroullec, Pablo Gallego Picard, Ronan Bouroullec, Erwan Bouroullec, Rosemary Laing, Robin Evans, Mary Lucier, Michael Rakowitz, Casey Mack, María Asunción Salgado de la Rosa, Larry Sultan, Mathias Goeritz, Juan Creus Andrade, Chus Pato, Anxos Romeo, Estevo Creus, Yolanda Castaño, Marco Aristògatoff Issue 4 contributors are Thomas Roma, Jonas Dahlberg, José Manuel Gallego Jorreto, Jorge Pardo, Claus Carstensen, Jes Vagnby, Erik Nielsen, Maria Papadimitriou, Yorghos Tzirtilakis, Isidro Blasco, Fernando Quesada López, Holger Klein, Pamela Theodora, Bobby Baker, Herme Ciscar, Mónica García, Tanja Jordan, María Fullaondo Buigas de Dalmau, Txuma Sánchez, Santiago Alba Rico

Our logo is glued to the front free endpaper.; Porcelanas e Vidros (porcelain and glass) is one of a series of books, each one about a certain nuclei or art collection from the Museu-Escola de Artes Decorativas Portuguesas in Lisbon. It is divided into three distinct sections, each with an article and the respective catalogue entries. The first section is dedicated to the production of Chinese porcelain and the European presence in China, and shows a fine selection of Chinese porcelain pieces dating from the Ming dynasty (1368-1644) to the 19th century. The second section focuses on porcelain produced by the Vista Alegre Factory in Portugal, the first porcelain factory in the Iberian Peninsula, showing a number of excellent examples of this production. The third section highlights aspects of the Meissen porcelain production. Terminating with a comprehensive bibliography, the book also includes a study on Portuguese heraldry and a glossary of Chinese symbols, both of which assist the reader in acquiring a more wide-ranging knowledge on the subject. With significant contributions by Maria Antónia Pinto de Matos, Jorge Brito e Abreu, João Alarcão de Carvalho Branco, as well as the renowned restorer and conserver and also author of the book, Mary Espírito Santo Salgado Lobo Antunes, this book illustrates more than 70 magnificent pieces, providing the reader with a general context of porcelain production in three different regions.

In this case, the Chinese porcelain section in the permanent exhibition of its most important pieces. My interest in Chinese porcelain, like in many other objects that I have collected, and continue to collect, dates back to my youth. Though my upbringing and family life I have always felt that the history of our native land has a tremendous effect on our lives and can give meaning and committing to everything we do. From this I gradually developed an interest in the history of Portugal and, later, found great enjoyment in collecting objects that, in one way or another, are liked to it." excerpt from the introductory text by Vítor Carmona e Costa.
