Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - In March of 1972, Dr. R. John Rutten was practicing family medicine in Santa Barbara, California, when he was contacted by the United States Central Intelligence Agency. Before taking up a public sector career, Dr. Rutten had obtained specialized training and experience in diving medicine while operating decompression chambers for the US Navy. It was that expertise that won him the attention of the CIA.The plan was to secretly raise the Soviet K-129 nuclear-armed submarine that had sunk in 1968. The Hughes Glomar Explorer, the tremendous deep-sea drilling platform that would carry the crew on their journey, was still under construction at the time. Two years after being recruited, in August of 1974, Dr. Rutten and forty-five companions flew a private charter to Hawaii where they boarded the completed Explorer. He was assigned to B-Crew, charged with exploring and recovering the submarine after its miraculous discovery at a depth of 17,000 feet two months earlier. In this firsthand, historical account, Dr. Rutten recounts his seven weeks with the B-Crew aboard the Hughes Glomar Explorer as they attempt to elude the ever-watchful Soviet trawlers to exhume a priceless relic of Soviet engineering.

Hardcover. Zustand: Very good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Good. [8], 444, [4] pages. Inscribed by author on the fep. Map. DJ has wear, soiling, edge tears and chips. The authors served in World War II and the Korean Wear. He was later stationed in Tehran and Panama. He has treated patients throughout the Middle East and in Central and South America. But it is in "Aussie-land" and the American expatriate community at Alice Springs, or what the Australians called the Spyce Byce, that this unique and technically exact journal begins. The author and his wife spent over twenty years in private practice and then returned to government service overseas for a while before returning to their home in California. In this work, the author brings together two years of personal journals, flight logs, musings and medical notes collected in the Alice, the heart of the continent we call Australia. As an American civilian and physician serving in the Aeromedical Service of the Royal Flying Doctors, Rutten mingles with and heals the superstitious aboriginals in the outback. His detailed account covers his journeys into the aboriginal culture and thousands of aerial miles of intoxicating sunsets and sunrises over Ayer's Rock, Chamber's Pillar, Henbury Craters and along the Finke and Dockers rivers to the Olgas. First Edition [Stated], First Printing [Stated].

Paperback. Zustand: Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Not present. 1. Potloodaantekeningen. 23 bijlagen waarvan vele uitvouwbaar.
