Erstausgabe
Hardcover. Zustand: vg+ to near fine. First edition. Octavo. 160pp. Blue decorative cloth boards with gilt lettering on a yellow leather label on the spine. Speckled edges of book block. Original printed red and white wrappers bound in. The work serves as an official report of the Swedish Red Cross's so called "White Buses" operation headed by Swedish diplomat Folke Bernadotte. The report was written by Swedish Dr. Gerhard Rundberg (1903-1978) and Danish medical officer Henry Meyer, who served as medics for the operation. There is a specific focus here on the situation in the Neuengamme concentration Camp, near Hamburg where many of the Nordic POWs were being gathered. The work serves as an important and detailed account of firsthand experiences and events, during this historic and difficult mission, which has been seen as a great example of successful humanitarian missions in times of war. Text in Swedish. Binding with minor rubbing to the gilt lettering on the label of the spine. Interior with the name of a previous owner in ink at the top of the bound in front wrapper and the title page. Minor foxing to the front free endpaper. Binding and interior in very good+ to near fine condition overall.
