A charming piece published to commemorate Oak Knoll Fest X.

Pastdown has a deep wrinkle in it. There is a crack just after the title page at the bottom. Has wear at the top edge and down both edges of spine. Unmarked pages. Hard Cover. Zustand: Very Good. This is an almost very good hardcover bound volume of 6 issues of 'The Philistine', in the original pale blue paper-covered boards and leather spine. The spine leather is worn, and the title label chipped. The boards are generally clean, but a few faint tiny marks. Gilt title still bright. This is Volume XII of the Philistine and contains 6 issues from December 1900 through May 1901. Covers bound in. All issues clean. 6" high X 5" wide.

All the illustrations (the Blacksmith, a Book Binder, Type-Setting, etc) except frontispiece portrait of Elbert Hubbard are photographic reproductions mounted on grey inserted leaves. Grey paper-covered boards, titled in gilt on the front, white parchment back, gilt. Bottom edge a bit rubbed. A very good copy. Printed by the Roycrofters at their shop in East Aurora, New York, U.S.A. Presswork finished in October, nineteen hundred two. The title page after the Decretales of St. Gregory as done by Joanis Petit at Venice in fifteen hundred and twenty-nine. The ornaments designed by Richard Druger, presswork by Otto Franz, and composition by Charles Rosen.

But the colophon places the book at the Roycrofters workshop in East Aurora. Published in 1898. 188 pages. Bound with suede spine burnished and stamped with gold. Discolored from sunlight and age from original greenish to a leathery brown. Plain gray paper over boards, also stamped with gold titles. Large and attractive red initials begin each section the first of which is decorated with gold others are not. Well printed and attractively designed, as you would expect from the Roycrofters workshop. Previous owner's bookplate on the inside front cover bearing the name of Frank Brett Noyes, who was the President of the Associated Press for the first thirty eight years of the century.
