Pen illustration of a man playing bagpipes along a creek, accompanied by a poem; 12.5" x 9"; produced on stiff card; some foxing, a couple water stains, good. The poem, self-described as a "rotten rhyme" appears to have been produced off the cuff to celebrate a friend named Hartley's birthday on June 19th, 1920. It appears from the handwriting that Arrington provided the poem and Rowe the illustration. Per his NYT obituary, Rowe was a professional artist, and seems to have mostly worked in magazine illustration. His wife, Mary Louise Arrington Rowe was also an artist, and is described by the NYT as focusing on portraiture.
