Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This book contains the refereed proceedings of the 3rd International IFIP-TC6 Networking Conference, Networking 2004. Conferences in the Networking series span the interests of several distinct, but related, TC6 working groups, including Working Groups 6.2, 6.3, and 6.8. Re ecting this, the conference was structured with three Special Tracks: (i) Networking Technologies, Services, and Protocols; (ii) Performance of Computer and Communication Networks; and (iii) Mobile and Wireless Communications. However, beyond providing a forum for the presentation of high-quality - search in various complementary aspects of networking, the conference was also targetedtocontributingtoauni edviewofthe eldandtofosteringtheinter- tion and exchange of fruitful ideas between the various related (and overlapping) specialized subcommunities therein. Towards this second objective, more than a few conference sessions (and thematic sections in this book) 'cut across' the Special Tracks, along more generic or fundamental concepts. Networking 2004 was fortunate to attract very high interest among the c- munity, and the conference received 539 submissions from 44 countries in all ve continents. These gures correspond to a remarkable increase in subm- sions from the previous very successful events (roughly, a 156% increase over Networking 2000 and 71% over Networking 2002), and indicate that Netw- king conferences are progressively becoming established as worldwide reference events in the eld.

Zustand: Sehr gut. Zustand: Sehr gut | Sprache: Englisch | Produktart: Bücher | Internet Tiered Services: Theory, Economics, and Quality of Service (QoS) presents a theoretical framework for reasoning about and pricing Internet tiered services, and develops a practical algorithmic toolset for network providers to develop customized menus of service offerings. The material includes a comprehensive study of the design, sizing, and pricing of tiered structures for Internet services, and illustrates their potential in simplifying the operation of complex components such as packet schedulers. Specifically, the book addresses the following issues:Optimization of service tier selection and sizing, using fundamental concepts from location theory; several variants of the problem are considered, including deterministic vs. stochastic demands.Economic models for optimal pricing of service tiers that take into account simultaneously the (usually conflicting) objectives of users and providers.Models for optimizing "bundles of services," e.g., when a provider offers a service that includes both access bandwidth and data storage.Applications of tiered services in simplifying important QoS functions in the network, including fair packet scheduling.Internet Tiered Services: Theory, Economics, and Quality of Service is a useful resource for engineers in the fields of Internet services, economics, and quality of service (QoS) in network resource allocation.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - As telecommunications products and services have become an essential part of - eryday life, consumers have at the same time grown intimately familiar with the concept of tiered pricing that is associated with such services. With tiered service structures, users may select from a small set of tiers that offer progressively higher levels of service with a correspondingincrease in price. Tiered structures have been applied in several forms to wireless services (e. g. , characterized by the amount of voice minutes, number of text messages, or the size of one's circle of friends to whom voice calls are free), Internet broadband access (e. g. , the access speed or volume of monthly transferred data), and digital TV offerings (e. g. , the number of channels included), among others. Service tiering is a form of market segmentation which, if applied appropriately, bene ts both providers and consumers by making available services and associated price points that re ect the diversity in consumers' needs and ability to pay. The purpose of this book is to develop a theoretical framework for reasoning about and pricing Internet tiered services, as well as a practical algorithmic toolset fornetworkproviderstodevelopcustomizedmenusofserviceofferings. We provide a comprehensive study of the design, sizing, and pricing of tiered structures for - ternet services, and we illustrate their potential in simplifying the operation of c- plex components such as packet schedulers.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - With ever-increasing demands on capacity, quality of service, speed, and reliability, current Internet systems are under strain and under review. Combining contributions from experts in the field, this book captures the most recent and innovative designs, architectures, protocols, and mechanisms that will enable researchers to successfully build the next-generation Internet. A broad perspective is provided, with topics including innovations at the physical/transmission layer in wired and wireless media, as well as the support for new switching and routing paradigms at the device and sub-system layer. The proposed alternatives to TCP and UDP at the data transport layer for emerging environments are also covered, as are the novel models and theoretical foundations proposed for understanding network complexity. Finally, new approaches for pricing and network economics are discussed, making this ideal for students, researchers, and practitioners who need to know about designing, constructing, and operating the next-generation Internet.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - The objective of this book is to provide timely and comprehensive coverage of the principles, technology, practice, and future of tra c grooming in op- cal networks. Tra c grooming considerations are already shaping new switch designs and standards, including next generation Synchronous Optical N- work/Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SONET/SDH) and Generic Framing Procedure (GFP), are a ecting future optical network technologies, and are creating new business opportunities. Yet information on the topic is sc- tered and there is a shortage of technical sources where relevant material can be accessed in a single location. The motivation for this book was to bridge this gap by providing a single authoritative point of reference to the tra c grooming state of the art. Tra c grooming is a complex subject, involving a number of interrelated concepts, standards, and technologies. It is also a rapidly growing eld of study, makingitdi cultforasinglebooktocoverallaspectsindetail.Tocope with this scope and complexity, this book provides appropriate background information, followed by an in-depth study of a few key issues and challenges. It has been our intention to bring together a broad range of perspectives from preeminent researchers in both academia and industry. We believe that these multiple, diverse points of view add considerable value and make the contents more interesting to the reader.
