The present album, the first ever published collections of folk, decorative and applied arts devoted to V. I. Lenin, is but a sample of the vast treasury created by the people working in this medium. However, the works collected in this album are ample evidence of the profound inspiration of artists striving to portray with utmost expressiveness Lenin's features so close and dear to all of us, the people's admiration for their great leader and his immortal ideas. Since the first years of the Great October Socialist Revolution Lenin's character has always attracted the attention of many great artists. They created works on themes connected with Lenin's life in various genres ranging from still-life drawings to complex canvases. The portrayal of Lenin's character is also an important landmark in the creative activities of folk handicraft masters who filled it with their inspiration and creative energy. The Russian villages of Fedoskino, Palekh, Kholuk, Mstera and Gogorodsk, birthplaces of remarkable folks handicraft masters, are known throughout the world. Through typical traditional forms and means they convey the beauty of ancient folk art of miniature painting, lacquers, embroidery, artistic metal carvings, etc. The first thing that strikes one while examining the works of folk art on themes connected with Lenin's life is the people's great admiration for their leader and the broad variety of themes and subjects with organically merge the profound truth of life with its romanticism.
