The fourth (final) part of the series of the Vartian Catalogue, containing the Geometridae material of the Vartian collection preserved in the Natural History Museum Vienna. The Geometridae section of this collection is supposedly the richest western and Central Asiatic reference material of this very diverse and yet insufficiently studied fauna, comprising nearly 22100 specimens of 1353 species-group taxa. The specimens have been collected in altogether 52 countries but the overwhelming majority of the Geometridae specimens originate from Armenia, Transcaucasia, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan. There are significant materials having been gathered from the Balkan Peninsula, Spain and Morocco and, naturally, the local fauna of Austria is also well represented in the collection. The complete list of the countries of origin of the Geometridae is presented prior to the collection check list section of the book. All species listed in the check list are associated with the abbreviation of all countries where the specimens of the given taxon have been collected. The descriptions of seven new species and their genitalia are also presented. All recognised taxa of the collection are illustrated on the 87 colour plates. Most specimens are shown at natural size but certain groups comprising small-sized species (e.g. Sterrhinae, Eupithecini, etc.) are illustrated in 1.5x magnification. [9786155279072].

Eva Vartian is one of the most outstanding lepidopterologists of the 20th century. Her collection is above all renowned because of its species richness and the excellent setting quality of the materials, the majority of which was collected and prepared by herself. The collection contains over 140,000 set specimens (including 4400 type specimens) with several thousands of additional pinned, unsorted ones housed in nearly 940 drawers. The main stock of this enormous material has been collected before the use of automatic light traps during thirty expeditions in previously poorly explored countries like Morocco, Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Syria, Armenia, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan. The most important part of the collection is that of the vast Iranian and Afghan accessions, which represents the best reference material from this region. It is especially rich in Noctuidae with some 60,000 specimens. The first section of Fibigeriana, Volume 1 is bilingual, introducing Eva Vartian and her lepidopterological activity in English and German. The scientific part comprises the annotated list of the type-material, a revised checklist of the Noctuoidea collection (altogether 3009 species-group taxa belonging to 673 genera), life-size colour images of all recognised taxa of the superfamily on 152 colour plates and a number of black and white and colour images illustrating Eva Vartian's life and expeditions. Fibigeriana, Volume 1, the first volume of the new lepidopterological series Fibigeriana, represents an encyclopaedic overview and identification guide to the fauna of Noctuoidea from Western and Central Asia. It is recommended to all amateur and professional lepidopterists who are involved into maintenance and development of collections and study of the extreme diversity of the Near and Middle East Lepidoptera. The first and second volumes of Fibigeriana (published in 2012 and 2013) provided a comprehensive demonstration of the impressively species-rich Noctuoidea, Lasiocampoidea, Bombycoidea, Drepanoidea, Cossoidea, Zygaenoidea and Hepialoidea material of the Vartian Collection. The newly published third item of the series is a detailed summary of the impressively large and beautiful Rhopalocera material of the famous collection. This remarkable part of the collection (stored in 257 drawers!) besides the best represented North African and Middle East fauna, includes material practically from all continents, including some historical material from Inner Asia and the tropical areas. Thus, the number of the distinguished butterfly taxa is really high, counting altogether 1 174 species and subspecies. During the preparation of Fibigeriana, Volume 3, the working team took some 15 000 colour photos of which the 183 colour plates of the present volume have been composed from. The third volume of the lepidopterological series Fibigeriana can be considered also as an identification guide to the Rhopalocera fauna of the Western Palaearctic. The detailed checklist contains information on the countries where specimens of each taxa were collected. Fibigeriana, Volume 3 is warmly recommended to all amateur and professional butterfly enthusiasts. Budapest. Heterocera Press. 229 pp., 183 plates with color photos, hardback.

The third volume of the Fibigeriana Supplement series consists of two major parts. In the first part, the Heterocera Ltd establishes a new monographic series with the name "Nolini of the World". The intention of this series is to publish monographic works of genera and generic complexes of the Nolini orbis terrarum. The first item of the series is the genus Manoba Walker, 1864, discussing altogether 130 species and 11 subspecies belonging to this entirely Indo-Australian group, with the descriptions of 44 new species and 3 new subspecies. All known species are illustrated in magnified colour pictures while their genitalia are shown in black and white figures. The second part includes 11 articles dealing with the taxonomy and biogeography of different Palaearctic and Oriental Noctuidae (s. str.) genera. These articles contain altogether 4 new genera, 1 new subgenus, 23 new species and 10 new subspecies, several new statuses and new combinations. László, G. The book includes altogether 16 genera, six of them are newly established (Genoveva, Hoenapamea, Mohapamea, Oriasapamea, Fahejbarna and Pluviapamea). The great majority of the species-rank taxa involved into the volume belong to the genus Apamea which is divided here into 7 subgenera six of which are also newly described here. The Apameini I volume contains 127 text pages with the latest taxonomic information, full synonymy and effective diagnoses of all known Palaearctic and Oriental taxa, with the descriptions of 29 new species and 8 new subspecies, and numerous taxonomic and nomenclatural changes. The volume is illustrated with 39 colour plates of high quality magnified photos displaying all taxa included and 18 colour plates showing the variation of each taxon in natural size. The genitalia of all species and subspecies are shown in 156 black and white plates. Budapest. Heterocera Press. 393 pp., 57 color plates, 156 plates with b/w photos, cloth bound 4 [with dust jacket].

The second volume of the Catalogue contains the revision of the genus Cucullia Schrank, 1802 (sensu stricto). The book includes the genera Cucullia and Calocucullia Ronkay & Ronkay, 1987; these two genera comprise altogether 150 taxa of 126 species. The modern interpretation of the taxonomic content of Cucullia is based on the species-group system proposed by the authors in 1994, extending the frames of this monophylum, and resulting in the establishment of a number of new species-groups and two new synonymies (Dasysternum Staudinger, 1895 and Metlaouia Dumont, 1929). The Cuculliinae I. volume contains 122 text pages with the latest taxonomic information, full synonymy and effective diagnoses of all known Palaearctic and Oriental taxa of the two genera, with the descriptions of 6 new species and 7 new subspecies. The volume is illustrated with 39 colour plates of high quality magnified photos displaying all taxa included and 18 colour plates showing the variation of each taxon in natural size. The genitalia of all species and subspecies are shown in 150 black and white plates. Budapest. Heterocera Press. 365 pp., 57 color plates, 150 plates with b/w illustrations, cloth bound 4 [with dust jacket].

The first part of the book is the direct continuation of the volume 3, discussing the genus Shargacucullia. The authors had more than thirty years of expertise on this group but it was even so a great challenge to summarise the taxonomic knowledge on the entire genus, more than a century after the Catalogue of Hampson, the first and only monograph of this very fascinating, beautiful but often prettily difficult phylogenetic unit. The second part of the volume is a monographic treatment of the Palaearctic and Oriental genera and species of the subfamily Psaphidinae (sensu Fibiger & Hacker 2005, Fibiger & Lafontaine 2005). In this part we propose solutions for certain evergreen taxonomic problems concerning with the genera Brachionycha, Xylocampa, Lamprosticta, Asteroscopus and Valeria. New taxa: Shargacucullia (Brevicucullia) n. subgen., Shargacucullia (Prenanthcucullia) prenanthis mosaica n. ssp., Shargacucullia (Prenanthcucullia) szeokekalmani n. sp., Shargacucullia (Falcicucullia) n. subgen., Shargacucullia (Stigmatocucullia) n. subgen., Shargacucullia (Stigmatocucullia) expansa n. sp., Shargacucullia (Stigmatocucullia) maria n. sp., Shargacucullia (Verbascullia) n. subgen., Shargacucullia (Verbascullia) verbasci posterobscura n. ssp., Shargacucullia (Verbascullia) verbasci orientalis n. ssp., Shargacucullia (Shargacucullia) thapsiphaga belaherczigi n. ssp., Shargacucullia (Shargacucullia) kurthuberi n. sp., Shargacucullia (Shargacucullia) nekrasovi n. sp., Shargacucullia (Shargacucullia) asgharshirvanii n. sp., Shargacucullia (Shargacucullia) asadvartiani n. sp., Shargacucullia (Shargacucullia) lychnitis mysteriosa n. ssp., Brachionycha nubeculosa kullbergi n. ssp., Asteroscopus syriaca wieseri n. ssp., Ostheldera pakistana n. sp., Flexivaleria n. gen., Meganephria (Paranephria) n. subgen., Meganephria (Paranephria) varatlanka n. sp., Belosticta (Debilisticta) n. subgen., Belosticta (Funesticta) n. subgen., Belosticta (Splendisticta) n. subgen., Allophyes (Boursinyes) n. subgen., Allophyes (Ohshimyes) n. subgen., Allophyes (Ohshimyes) alces n. sp., Allophyes (Allophyes) asiatica gilanica n. ssp., Allophyes (Allophyes) asiatica kadyrbekovi n. ssp., Allophyes (Crassophyes) n. subgen., Speidelia taiwana sinica n. ssp., Speidelia siamica n. sp.
