Lovely brushed endpaper design. $1.00 price intact to front dustjacket flap. Black and white and (fabulous!) color illustrations by Rojan. Lovely, clean copy. Protected in mylar. ".PaulFaucher, a bookseller in the 1920s became interested and immersed in the European educational movement led by Frantisek Bakule and Jean Piaget. In 1929 he founded the French section of the International Education Office and began working with Bakule, who ran an experimental orphanage in Prague. The orphanage accepted healthy children, as well as children who became handicapped during World War I. He successfully integrated both classes of children in independent and creative activities. Bakule's assistant was a Czech children's book author Lida Durdikova. She may have had something to do with Faucher's interest in children's literature and helped him launch the Père Castor albums in 1931. She was the main author of the series, working under the pseudonym Lida, and married Faucher in 1933." (Masha Stepanova, writing for Miami University's Walter Havighurst's Special Collections). In eigens dafür angefertigter HLeinenmappe (um 1950?), Außendeckel mit geprägtem Papier im Krokodilmuster, Vorderdeckel mit Titelschildchen ("Anonym. 16 erotische Aquarelle"), 3 Schließbändchen. Innendeckel mit Buntpapier bezogen. Diese 16 Original-Aquarelle von Rojan sind eigenständige großformatige Variationen zu den Motiven der von Rojan illustrierten Ausgabe der 'Vers libres' von Raymond Radiguet (1935/1937). Sie zeigen im Vergleich zu den Buchillustrationen durchaus spannende Varianten, von lebendiger Farbigkeit. Sie sind wie alle explizit erotische Arbeiten nicht von Rojan signiert, können ihm aber eindeutig zugeordnet werden. In der hervorragend kuratierten Varshavsky Collection in San Francisco / California findet sich eine vergleichbare Folge von Original-Aquarellen Rojans zu 'Vers libres' (Provenienz: Jean Pierre Dutel), und ein Vergleich dieser Zeichnungen mit den hier vorliegenden belegt zweifelfrei den identischen Künstler, also Rojan. In a specially made half-linen portfolio (around 1950?), outer cover with relief embossed paper in crocodile pattern, front cover with title label ("Anonym. 16 erotische Aquarelle"), 3 closing ribbons. Inside cover covered with coloured paper. These 16 original watercolours by Rojan are large-format original variations on the motifs of the edition of 'Vers libres' by Raymond Radiguet (1935/1937) illustrated by Rojan. Compared to the illustrations in the book, they show quite exciting variations, in vivid colours. Like all explicitly erotic works, they are not signed by Rojan, but can be clearly attributed to him. In the excellently curated Varshavsky Collection in San Francisco, California, there is a comparable series of original watercolours by Rojan for 'Vers libres' (provenance: Jean Pierre Dutel), and a comparison of these drawings with the present ones proves beyond doubt that the artist is the same, i.e. Rojan. Portfolio with slight signs of wear. The watercolours in very good condition.

Prints are each framed in white paper two-part frame. One of these is creased vertically, but crease does not affect print. Prints are nice and bright. Numbered 489/500 copies. Portfolio measures 10 1/4" x 13" without titles on spine. IB.

A First Edition of Margaret Wise Brown's first book, with charming illustrations by Rojan, also known as Rojankovsky. There is a pencilled inscription from "Granny" on the front endpaper. The dustjacket is present, and though it has shelfwear, it is mostly intact. There is rubbing with surface loss to the spine, and small amount of loss to the extremities, and a couple of short closed tears. It is not price-clipped and is now protected with a new mylar cover. Very Good binding / Good dust jacket.
