Based on John Haase's 1966 novel, "Me and the Arch Kook Petulia," about newlywed San Francisco socialite Petulia Danner (Christie), who is determined to have an affair with physician Dr. Archie Bollen (Scott). Petulia's pursuit of Archie is relentless, even as he dates another woman, and culminates in a curious twist. The film makes use of various time jumps, but even with an uneven plot still remains an overlooked gem of 1960s New Hollywood. One with a provenance stamp on the verso. A psychiatrist begins a passionate affair with a married woman, with their relationship eventually devolving into violence and animosity. A controversial film, and the subject of endless disagreement between those who praise its frankness and malaise and those who find it utterly tastelessin our estimation, among Nicholas Roeg's finest directorial efforts. Two promotional portrait photographs of David Bowie, likely used as part of a press release announcing Bowie's casting in the 1976 film "The Man Who Fell to Earth." Each with a fold over mimeo snipe from public relations firm Rogers and Cowan dated 5-29-75. One photograph with Bowie's name and RCA Records and Tapes printed in the bottom margin. Just three weeks prior, RCA had released Bowie's ninth studio album, "Young Americans," and earlier that year the BBC had broadcast the documentary "Cracked Actor" about the singer, which led director Nicholas Roeg to cast Bowie in his upcoming adaptation of Walter Tevis' 1963 novel. 8 x 10 inches. John Osborne's The World of Paul Slickey, a musical satire of the tabloid press, premiered at the Palace Theatre on 5 May 1959 and proved one of the most resounding flops in modern theatrical history. Booing broke out in the stalls halfway through the show (Noel Coward and John Gielgud were among the booers) and afterwards Osborne was chased up the Charing Cross Road by irate theatregoers.
