Half blue leather on blue cloth boards, with some rubbing/bumping to edges, spine, some worn patches, some splitting to spine edges, a little scuffing, very minor soiling. Contents generally clean and tight but for very minor browning/soiling, a little cocked. Owner's name to ffep. English reprint of More's socio-political satire, originally published in Latin in 1516. It depicts the society on the fictional island of Utopia, with details of its religious, social and political customs. This is the 1st edition of the English Reprints edition. Between 1868 and 1871, Edward Arber edited a 30 volume series of significant early books and manuscripts, published by A Murray under the English Reprints name.

Also the end papers with the same speckled design and top page edges are gold gilt. A superb Victorian book that has the Armorial bookplate of the Audenham House, Herts. [Gibbs Family after 1671] on the inside of the front cover. It then went to a university library - there's minimum evidence of this. We have acquired many of these English Reprints, all with matching bindings.
