This volume is Madle s account of his trip to the World Science Fiction Convention in London in 1957 as the winner of that year s election of the Trans-Atlantic Fan Fund (TAFF). The Fund was created in 1953 for the purpose of providing funds to bring well-known and popular science fiction fans fam…iliar to others on both sides of the ocean across the Atlantic. Since that time TAFF has regularly brought North American fans to European conventions and European fans to North American conventions. TAFF exists solely through the support of fandom. The candidates are voted on by interested fans all over the world, and each vote is accompanied by a donation. These votes, and the continued generosity of fandom, are what make TAFF possible. It continues to this day, and the current election is to choose a fan to attend the 2014 World Science Fiction Convention, which coincidentally is also taking place in London. Madle has a long and extensive career in SF fandom. He published fanzines first in the 1930s, was a charter member of the Fantasy Amateur Press Association (FAPA), a founder and first chairman of First Fandom, a founding member of the Philadelphia Science Fiction Society, and the man who gave the Hugo awards their name. For many years he s also been a dealer in science fiction books, magazines and amateur publications, publishing occasional catalogues. Very good. pages are neatly mimeographed as issued, and this copy is in very good condition.
