Now part of the republic of Djibouti, Obock was the first area in the region to be colonised by France in the late nineteenth century. Denis de Rivoyre was a promoter of French colonisation, and this uncommon volume provides a contemporary discussion of the colonisation of Obock and the Red Sea by the French. With twenty three plates, collated and complete. A volume in the Picard collection. To the title page, there are three stamps from various institutions, including the war office library and Her Majesty's Stationary Office, dated 21st November 1887. Prior owner has inscribed date to the title page in ink. Date ratified using Worldcat. Rebound in brown cloth. Externally, lovely with just some shelf wear. Internally, firmly bound. Aside from some light foxing to the first and last few pages, pages are bright and clean with the odd mark. Very Good Indeed. book.
