This volume offers a historical overview of fluency and, in seeking to better define the term, focuses on book native speaker and nonnative speaker fluency. While Perspectives on Fluency is of obvious importance to those in applied linguistics, the pedagogical implications of the research will be of interest to those in language teaching fields as well.1. In "What is Fluency?" (Section 1), the authors seek to define fluency from diverse perspectives; the result is a comprehensive look at the many ways in which we think of fluency.2. The chapters in "Essential Components of Fluency" (Section 2) look at aspects of oral speech and communicative behavior that can contribute to impressions of a speaker's fluency.3. "Cognitive Processes Underlying Fluency (Section 3) is devoted to a psycholinguistic exploration of the cognitive processes that underlie speech.4. The studies in "Empirical Studies on Nonnative Fluency" (Section 4) present a range of approaches to characterizing fluency or dysfluency using oral language data of spontaneous speech. Condition is good. All pages are present, legible, fair and fine. Internal diagrams are crisp and clear. There is shelf wear throughout the book and some discolouration at the top of the first internal page. It is an ex-university library book and thus has a stamp (and number) on the first internal page. There is slight peeling on the cover and a couple of stickers on the spine.
