In den WarenkorbCloth. Zustand: Fine. None (illustrator). A smart two volume set of this classic collection of short stories from Boccaccio, from the Everyman's Library. Complete in two volumes. Everyman's Library, romance collection volumes 845 and 846. With the vanishingly scarce original price-clipped dust wrappers. Each volume contains one plate, being an illustration of the view of the Villa Di Poggio Gherardo or the Villa Palmieri. A collection of one-hundred short stories, originally written in the fourteenth century, told by a group of seven young women and three young men as they shelter in a villa outside of Florence to escape the Black Death. The tales range from the erotic to the tragic, from tales of wit to moral life lessons. This work is considered an important record of Italian life at this time. Written by Giovanni Boccaccio, an Italian writer, poet, and Renaissance humanist who was a known correspondent of Petrarch. Translated by James Macmullen Rigg, a British barrister, legal scholar, and translator. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, excellent. Original price-clipped dust wrappers are very smart with minor wear and light chipping to the extremities. Light sunning to the spines. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. Fine. book.
