She was the wife of Willard Brigham Richards (1847-1942), who was the son of Dr. Willard Richards (1804-1854), a pioneer of 1847 and early leader of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as second counselor to church president Brigham Young in the First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1847 until his death. There are two inscriptions on the front flyleaf. The first inscription states: "Presented to / Mary L. Snelgrove / as a reward of Merit / from the 12th Ward / Sunday School / Henry C. Fowler / John Druce / Teachers." The inscription below the first inscription states: "Mamas first Book gift to her son / Paul S. Richards."
