Sewn as issued, pictorial wrappers. Very slight smudging of wrappers, else very fine. Provenance: Jeanette Bonnier (1934-2016). New York, Rizzoli, 1984. 8vo. 416 pp. Illustrated, partly in colour. (Over 700 illustrations.) This book documents the complete architectural work of Richard Meier to 1984. Prominently featured among his built works are the famous neo-Purist houses done in the 1960s and early 1970s, and, much more current, his newly completed High Museum in Atlanta. Ample coverage is also given to important unbuilt projects, such as the administrative headquarters designed in 1982 for the Renault Corporation. Presented chronologically, the works are lavishly illustrated in both color and black and white, with full documentation in drawings, photographs, and sketches. An extensive and insightful introduction by Joseph Rykwert ranges over Meier's career, tracing the development of major themes in his work and placing them into historical context. Also included are a postscript by John Hejduk, a select bibliography of writings by and about Meier, and a biographical chronology which contains excerpts from major critical commentary on the work. The book is a feast for the eyes and a rich repository for students of Meier's buildings. It gives evidence of an architect whose production over two decades, in Rykwert's words, maintains a consistency of achievement which very few of Meier's contemporaries anywhere can equal. - - - Richard Meier received his architectural training at Cornell University and established his office in New York City in 1963. One of the original New York group of Five Architects, his practice has included public housing, medical and educational facilities, commercial buildings, museums, and furniture designs, in addition to private houses. Among these, his Smith House, Douglas House, Westbeth Artists' Housing, Twin Parks Northeast Housing, Bronx Developmental Center, and Hartford Seminary have won National Honor Awards from the American Institute of Architects. In 1983 he was elected to the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters, and in 1984 he was awarded the Pritzker Prize.
