Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'Impressions and Memories' is an elegant and insightful collection of autobiographical sketches by Thomas Lister, the 4th Baron Ribblesdale. A prominent figure in British political and social life during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, Ribblesdale-famously captured in portraiture as 'The Ancestor'-provides a unique window into the world of the landed aristocracy. This work navigates the author's diverse experiences, from the high-stakes environment of Westminster to the refined traditions of English country life.Through a series of evocative vignettes, the narrative explores the shifting social and political landscape of Britain at the turn of the century. Ribblesdale reflects on his time in public service, his passion for field sports, and his interactions with the leading figures of his day. His prose is marked by a blend of wit, urbanity, and a keen eye for detail, capturing the nuances of a society undergoing profound change. More than a mere chronicle of events, the book serves as a thoughtful meditation on character, duty, and the cultural values of a vanished age. 'Impressions and Memories' remains a significant historical document for those interested in the social history of the United Kingdom and the personal legacy of one of its most distinctive statesmen. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
