Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Illustrationer af A. J. Carstens 196 pp. Dänisch.

Zustand: Very Good. Strassburg, apud Socios Bibliopolas Bauer et Treuttel, 1780. 8vo. xiv,+ 214,+ 243,+ (1) pp. Some spotting. Worn contemporary half calf, gilt spine with black label, red edges. Ink annotations on fly-leaf. Library stamps from Nya elementarskolan i Stockholm and Klassiska institutionen. From the library of Arne Losman. Hoffman I, 208. Dibdin 277. Published in both an 8vo and a 4to edition. Richard Brunck (1729-1803) was a critic and classical scholar in Strassbourg who spent considerable sums of money in publishing editions of the Greek classics. He later took an active part in the French revolution and was imprisoned at Besançon and lost his pension so that he had to sell his library. The principle objection to this edition was according to Dibin that Brunck altered the text without the authority of MSS but from conjecture alone. But however ? Brunck has certainly performed the part of a skilful interpreter of the text of the author?. Hardcover / Hardback.
