Wraps. Zustand: Fine. Pamphlet of 68 pp. in printed stiff wrappers. Fine. The Rev. James Francis Armstrong was the third pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Trenton, New Jersey, 1786-1816. He was instrumental in the founding of the New Jersey Bible Society and in creating the Princeton Theological Seminary. With the outbreak of the War for American Independence, Armstrong enlisted as a private in the New Jersey militia and in 1776 was part of an expedition for the defgense of Staten Island. Shortly thereafter, Armstrong laid down his arms and in December, 1777 was named chaplain of General Sullivan's regiment and later the 2nd Maryland Brigade.
