Robert Zhao Renhui indaga su questi temi nel suo A Guide to the Flora and Fauna of the World, che sembra essere, a un primo sguardo, un autentico catalogo di piante e animali, ma in realtà è interamente fittizio.L'inventario di Renhui apparentemente "documenta" 55 diversi animali, piante e ambienti che sono stati manipolati dall'uomo ma che non sembrano esserlo, ed esamina la miriade di modi in cui gli umani stanno modificando la natura. Incontriamo creature curiose che si sono evolute in modi spesso inaspettati per far fronte al nostro mondo che cambia, compresi rinoceronti con le corna appena visibili e scimmie dipendenti dal cibo distribuito dagli umani.
