La Blanchère war einer der ersten Naturwissenschaftler, die die Photographie in der Naturforschung einsetzten. L. Kleffel (1807-1885) eröffnete 1852 ein Fotoatelier in seinem Geburtsort Goldberg (Mecklenburg). 1860 eröffnete er ein photographisches Lehrinstitut. 1867 zog er nach Berlin, wo er ein Geschäft für Fotozubehör betrieb. Sein "Handbuch der practischen Photographie" erlebte 8 Auflagen und wurde außer ins Französische auch ins Dänische und Italienische übersetzt. - Rücken und Gelenke unauffällig restauriert, Blattränder durchgehend etwas braunfleckig, sehr gut erhalten und dekorativ gebunden. French naturalist and photography pioneer H. de la Blanchère (1821-1880) studied chemistry in Nantes in 1848 and subsequently devoted himself to fisheries. After moving to Paris in 1855, Gustave Le Gray (1820-1884) introduced him to photography. La Blanchère was one of the first natural scientists to use photography in natural history research. He wrote numerous zoological books, including several on fish (ichthyology), most of which were illustrated with his own photographs. In addition to these, he published two other important manuals on photographic technique: "L'Art du photographe" (1859) and "Monographie du stéréoscope" (1861). - Spine damaged and with small missing pieces, front cover stained and with torn corner at bottom, contemporary ownership note on front title page, slightly brown-stained throughout, overall in good condition. In 1848, he adopts photography as an aide to his scientific work. By 1856, he has opened a photographic studio in Paris, perfected a waxed paper process based upon that of Gustave Le Gray, and became a member of the Société Francaise de Photographie.
