The initiative for these conferences was taken by project 415 of ESPRIT (the European Strategic Programme for Research and Development in Information Technology of the Commission of the European Communities). Their scope covers central themes in the area of parallel architectures and languages, including such topics as concurrent, object-oriented, logic and functional programming; MIMD, dataflow, inference and reduction machines; design and verification of parallel systems; VLSI, WSI and RISC architectures; performance evaluation, memory management, systolic arrays, applications and special purpose architectures. The four invited lectures present the state of the art and advanced developments in major research areas related to the topics of the conference. Of the more than 150 submitted papers 45 were selected for presentation. Furthermore the program of PARLE '89 comprises presentations on the subprojects which together constitute ESPRIT project 415. He provided the manuscript with a description of the content and a full transcription. The leaf is written on on bothe sides, the leaf has a tear without loss of text. This manuscript provides legal advice in the situation where partners A and B on the one side and C on the other side are in business together, but B goes bankrupt. Is the debt as much A's as it is B's? Various legal scholars discuss this question and conclude: yes, it is. The description in Dutch by A. Hielkema: Juridisch advies van enkele rechtsgeleerden over schade geleden binnen een compagnie. Op 22 augustus 1660 sluiten A en B ter ene en C ter andere zijde een contract van sociëteit. B is door wanbeleid failliet gegaan en nu is de vraag of alleen A voor de schade op moet draaien of dat ook C aangesproken kan worden. De rechtsgeleerden Martin van der Goed, Willem Strijen en Rem van van Limborch komen tot de conclusie, dat A alle schulden op zich moet nemen, aangezien A en B binnen de compagnie als een (rechts) persoon optreden en C als andere persoon. Winst en verlies wordt zogezegd over deze twee personen verdeeld. Bovendien golden er beperkende bepalingen voor optreden van C binnen de compagnie (B was bijvoorbeeld gemachtigd om reizen te maken en C niet). Op de keerzijde staan aantekeningen en het advies van rechtsgeleerde Philips Schabaelje (eveneens gedateerd op 19 september 1663), die tot dezelfde conclusie komt als zijn voornoemde collega's.
