In den WarenkorbFirst edition of this history of the Aden Protectorate, published the year after the formation of the Federation of Arab Emirates of the South, which would eventually become South Yemen. The inauguration of this new state is discussed in Chapter V. Reilly (1882-1966) assumed the post of resident at Aden in 1931, becoming chief commissioner in 1932 when the territory was transferred to the Viceroy of India. In 1934, he brokered the Treaty of San'a to stave off a war between Britain and Yemen over the delimitation of frontiers. Following the treaty, he focused on internal security matters and successfully lobbied London to assume direct control of Aden in 1937. Octavo. With 16 plates, folding map at rear. Original pictorial wrappers lettered in black. Spine ends glued down, rear wrapper scuffed, extremities lightly rubbed and creased, rear inner hinge cracked, title page a little foxed, otherwise clean: a very good copy.
