Hardcover. Zustand: Good+. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: No Dust Jacket. Illustrated by William Steig (illustrator). First American Edition; First Printing. Beige cloth covers with red lettering on spine and lettering and illustration on front cover. The book is in good plus condition overall, with some scuffing, soiling and wear to the covers and soiling and staining to the page edges. There is a bit of browning and staining to the pages, but the contents are otherwise clean and tight. ; An early book illustrated by William Steig, who considered Reich to be his "favorite thinker", with many in-text and full page drawings. ; Black and white full page and in text drawings; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 126 pages; Reich, an Austrian doctor, was considered to be one of the most controversial figures in psychoanalysis. He escaped the Nazi take-over of Austria and emigrated to the United States in 1939. After Pearl Harbor, he was arrested and detained for three weeks by the FBI and it wasn't until 1947 when the US determined that he and the Oregone Institute weren't engaged in subversive activities. "Listen, Little Man! " was originally published as an essay in German (Rede an den kleinen Mann) in which Reich described his libetarian socialist philosopy and how common people can be their own worse enemies. In 1952, the FDA issued an injunction that all orgone equipment be destroyed and all related literature be seized. In 1956, six tons of Reich's papers, journals and books were burned. In 1957, Reich was imprisoned and in November of that year, he died in Lewisburg Federal Penitentiary.

Signed by Wilhelm Reich on the front free endpaper and inscribed to his second wife, "To Ilse Ollendorff, with my heartfelt thank [sic] for all her help Aug. 1946 Wilhelm Reich." xxiv, 344 pp. Bound in publisher's navy cloth with gilt lettering. Very Good+ with light edge wear; staining to rear board. Spine slightly mottled; contents lightly toned. In a Near Fine unclipped supplied jacket with light toning, small tear to rear joint at foot, and rubbing to rear panel. One of the renegade Freudian psychologist's most influential works, which posits sexual repression as the genesis of authoritarianism. A terrific association copy inscribed to his second wife (a partner in his highly unorthodox research in the US during the 1940s and early 1950s, and mother to his son) whom he would marry that year. They would stay together until 1951, when Reich discovered DOR and began constructing his famous cloudbusters. Signed copies of Reich's books are quite uncommon in the market.
