Covers various branches of ecclesiastical architec…ture, open timber roofs of ancient churches are the subject of this investigation, showing the spirit with which the mediaeval architects sought to give to necessary construction the most beautiful forms. The authors visited many of the remaining specimen and provided illustrations of roofs most worthy of inclusion, showing the excellence of their framing and design as well as various methods of construction. Profusely illustrated with forty-three plates rendered lithographically, five of them in color, as well as in-text illustrations, covering tie-beam roofs, trussed-rafter roofs, hammer-beam roofs, and collar-braced roofs. Binding with some wear along edges, mostly closed tears at joints of tail of spine. Previous owner's name plate on inside front cover. More than first half of block loose but complete. Plates in very good condition.
