Hardcover. Zustand: As New. Contents Preface. Acknowledgements. 1. Introduction. 2. Studies on multiple media schooling. 3. Management problems methodology. 4. Views on multiple media schooling. 5. Multiple media schooling conclusions. 6. Educational implications and recommendations. Annexures. Bibliography. Index. Education has… been a powerful instrument for social change and development. It is one of the responsibilities of the government to provide free and compulsory education to all its citizens up to the age of 14 years. It is mandatory to all the agencies working in the field of education to provide it in natural environment so that the child's growth physical mental emotional and social should harmoniously take place particularly during the early stages of education. Gandhiji's basic education favored imparting education through mother tongue. Many educationists and psychologists postulated mother tongue to be the medium of instruction for proper development. Since independence the Bay islands administration has been striving hard for proper implementation of educational schemes in these far flung islands. Demographically the islands populace comprises of multi cultural and multilingual with varied socio economic status. During the pre and post independence period people from various parts of mainland India migrated to these islands and thereby the islands depict a kaleidoscopic picture of mini India. The administration in order to provide education through mother tongue as medium of education has established schools in different languages. Besides Hindi and English initially there were schools in which instruction was provided in Bengali Telugu Tamil Urdu and Malayalam to facilitate the learners of the concerned ethnic group. At present the instruction is being given in five languages up to + 2 level in these islands. There are schools wherein instruction is provided in three/four languages under one roof. This system of providing education through media schools not only made the education attractive but also made accessibility easy to it to all strata of the society. But at the same time it also brought certain management problems on its heels such as providing teachers of the medium concerned from the respective states on mainland procurement of text books for the schools and library providing suitable infrastructure facilities supervisory and administrative staff etc. In order to meet the accommodation problems some schools have adopted shift system opting one/two media in morning session and the other(s) in the afternoon session. Thus functioning of such schools from dawn to dusk resulted in some other concomitant problems to the students teachers parents and also the administrators. The book also reflects the other variables that influence in opting mother tongue as medium of instruction. The factors such as socio cultural political economical and educational status of the parents play an important role in deciding medium of instruction for the wards. The views and opinions of the students pursued education in media schools teachers parents heads of the institutions educationists educational administrators parents of the ethnic groups social workers and leaders on the management of media schools in these islands are also taken into consideration. This book will be of immense help for the educational administrators planners supervisors and heads of the institutions where education is imparted through different media. 262 pp.

The research papers presented in this volume have emerged from the recent experience of organized attempts to brutally suppress Adivasi/Dalit/Minority ferment intersecting with organized attempts at communal polarization and promotion of communal hatred. Recurrent practices of 'dishonouring' women in the name of community honour, and the virulent attacks on inter-faith marriages, do indeed appear to share features in common with violence against inter-caste marriages, albeit on a stridently political and communal register. The adverse effects of politicization of religion on the advance of equality for women, and contemporary articulations of women's rights from within minority communities, are all important issues dealt in this volume. The voices of these women of India cannot be ignored, for they are the ones who will chart the course of India's future. At once vigorously analytical and vividly written, Women among Marginalised Communities of India: Issues and Challenges is a must-read for anyone interested in safe-guarding India's five thousand years of history. The facts revealed in this volume will invite many more debates among the scholars and policy makers. (jacket).

Hardcover. Zustand: New. Language: English. About the Book:- Globalization is a communicational concept, which alternately masks and transmits cultural or economic meanings. The becoming cultural of the economic and the becoming economic of the cultural, has often been identified as one of the features that characterizes what is… widely known as post-modernity. Our geographical, cultural, political, economic and social location will influence whether we see globalization as mainly an opportunity or a threat to the marginalizedcommunities. While unfolding this concept this volume has taken into consideration the multicultural and multi-religious context of our country. While everyone welcomes the new opportunities that have emerged because of globalization one cannot simply leave a number of negative elements unattended. On the other hand, communities can also be enriched by globalization when new ideas and experiences are critically adapted taking into consideration the refinement of the core values of a community. Therefore, the main task of this book is to understand and analyze globalization at best toharness its benefits and keep those negative consequences away from marginalized communities."We create our own realities". The research papers presented in this volume that have emerged from the recent international conference held in Hyderabad attempt to analyze the problems and also suggestions through which marginalized communities can be made to get the advantages of the globalization process and create their ownrealities so as to come closer to the main stream of Indian society. Buch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Increased environmental and energy concerns have renewed global interest in raw earth as a building material. Low-energy requirements, low-cost, high availability at construction sites, and favorable engineering properties make (EBMs) an attractive alternat…ive to conventional cement-based construction materials. Though the use of native binders to improve soil properties has garnered attention in recent literature, the available knowledge has not been covered in a single document. This book highlights the key soil properties that determine the mechanical performance of earthen building materials, importance of unsaturated soil mechanics in the engineering behavior of earthen building materials, the different types of stabilizers used to improve the engineering performance of earthen building materials including the use of select native binders, the characteristics of compressed earth blocks stabilized with cement and cement + wood ash additives and the improvement in the engineering properties of adobes stabilized with plant fibers and cow dung.
