Hardcover in dust jacket. Zustand: Very Good. First Edition; First Printing. This book is hard-bound in light brown cloth, with red and black stamping to the upper cover and spine, in a nice but price-clipped dust jacket with light foxing and light edge-wear. There is a previous owner name at the top of the upper DJ panel. The covers show light rubbing to the corners and spine-ends. The binding is solid. The contents are bright and generally clean, but with a bit of light toning and light foxing. This book is signed/inscribed by the illustrator Glen Rounds on the half title-page. From the collection of Cuthbert Christian Thambimuttu (1945-2019) of Columbus, Ohio - known to many of his bookseller, author, and illustrator friends as "Tubby." He was persistent in the pursuit of autographed books by the writers and artists he admired, including Gorey, Sendak, Heaney, Byatt, Morrison, Updike and many more. Joseph Heller once wrote to Tubby in response to one more "please sign and return" request: "This is turning out to be a hell of a lot of work!" All signed books unconditionally guaranteed to be authentic. Many of the books are inscribed to both Cuthbert and his great friend of more than two decades Antonia Gale Moss. ; Signed by Illustrator.

Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good+. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fair dj. Illustrated by Glen Rounds (illustrator). 3rd printing. (price-clipped) [minor wear and slight discoloration to cloth at spine ends, otherwise a good solid clean book; jacket is heavily browned at edges and along spine, scuffed on front panel, large ragged piece missing from top of spine, much smaller piece missing from base of spine, several clumsily-executed internal tape-repairs]. (pen and ink drawings) One of the harder-to-find books by Randolph, described in the jacket blurb as "probably the best known collector of authentic Ozark folklore." The book brings together hundreds of tales from a wide variety of sources: many "were contributed by elderly folk in the more isolated sections of the Ozarks, [while] some have been printed in the country weeklies, and a few find their way into the metropolitan press. Some of the wildest absurdities are exaggerated accounts of the narrator's own adventures, or the exploits of men whom he has known personally. Others are strangely garbled fragments of pioneer history and legend.".
