It Provides an insight or richness and vastness of our forest resources. Dr. Rakshit as a teacher and researcher had deeply studied the importance problems and prospects of forest resources of the Sub Himalayan North Bengal. The book is the first of it's kind to cover a comprehensive treasure of information on a wide variety of forest resources. It includes classification distribution status of utilization conservation and strategies for their sustainable development. The study area is almost a pioneer in exploiting and utilizing the forest products. The forest products are classified as timber and non timber (NTEPs). Most of them have a direct or indirect bearing on the socio economic condition of the people living in and around forests. This study covers a wide range of issues related to utilization conservation and scientific management of forest product of the area. The author observes that the forest resources are depleting and recognizes the importance and need for their sustainable development. Dr. Rakshit has raised issues on existing government policy and management aspect of forest resource and has suggested uniform policy guidelines throughout the country.
