Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Littoral gastropods of the families Littorinidae and Muricidae are well studied compared to most marine taxa, yet there remain many basic problems concerning their taxonomy, ecology and evolutionary biology. In other words, we know these snails well enough to realize just how little we really know about them. This awareness prompted the First European Meeting on Littorinid Biology held at the British Museum in London on 26th November 1986, and the discussion continued through the Second Meeting on Littorinid Biology, held at the Tjarno Marine Biological Laboratory, Sweden, from 4th to 8th July 1988. During the Tjiirno meeting, it was agreed to have a third meeting at Dale, Pembroke shire, U.K. in 1990. Twenty-two people attended the Tjarno meeting, and a further ten contributed as co-authors to the papers that were presented. These covered research in progress in a broad range of topics, and geo graphical areas. Unfortunately, Cesare Sacchi and Domenico Voltolina, as well as Elisabeth Boulding were not able to attend the meeting in person, but their contributions were ably presented by David Reid and Richard Palmer, respectively. We also regret that one of us, C.E., and several of our Russian colleagues, did not have the opportunity to come.

Luxury binding in green morocco, red labels to the spine, green gilt decoration including the arms of the House of Bourbon (Legatura Borbonica), all edges gilt. With the labels of Lord Eldon, Lord High Chancellor of Great Britain between 1801 and 1806 and again between 1807 and 1827, on the front pastedowns. Inscriptions in pencil on both title pages; vol. I ( "L[or]d Chancellor Eldon's 2 copies of 2", vol. II (L[or]d Chancellor Eldon's first copy of two). In near fine condition, some paste stains on yellow eps. Another copy of these first 2 volumes was sold by Christies in London 18 June 2012, lot 276, with the following catalogue entry; "PRESENTATION BINDING of Italian straight-grained green morocco gilt with armorial crest of the King of Naples and Sicily on sides, gilt edges. With author's autograph letter, dated Naples 28 April 1821, stating that he has already sent two unacknowledged copies of vol. I, and is now forwarding 2 copies of vol. II, one for Lord Eldon ('dalla fama gloriosa giunta fino a questo Cratere delle virtu' morali, e politiche') and one for the King.".

Dedicatoria a Pomponio Crivelli dell'autore, parroco di Parabiago. Cartonatura rifatta in carta decorata d'epoca. Fresco esemplare  (seppure non marginosissimo) dell'edizione originale di questo rarissimo libello dedicato alla battaglia che avvenne nei pressi di Parabiago tra le truppe di Azzone Visconti, erede di Galeazzo I che, in opposizione al pontefice, comprò il titolo di Vicario di Milano dallìImperatore Lodovico il Bavaro. Uno zio di questo, Londrisio Visconti tentò una congiura e costituì un'armata chiamata Compagnia di San Giorgio che si mosse contro l'esercito ambrosiano entrando segretamente in Parabiago da tre vie: Canegrate, dal Sempione e lungo l'Olona. La leggenda narra fosse intervenuto Sant'Ambrogio, il quale incominciò a frustare i soldati di Londrisio incitando i milanesi che ebbero così la meglio sui nemici. La battaglia fu però assai sanguinosa tanto che il narratore chiosa in questo modo: Tal fine sortì la sanguinosa giornata di Parabiago nel giorno suora notato, nell'ora del Vespero nella qual giornata morirono più di quattro milla persone del campo del nemico, dei nostri più di due millia e trecento. In tanto che si può dire Se la Magna pianse, ne Milan rise. Curiosamente vi è un errore dell'autore di questo libello nella data attribuita alla battaglia che accadde come riferisce anche l'anonimo nel 1339 . Vinciana, 488.  Cat. Bocca 3160.
