Turner and engraved by Henry le Keux, eleven other plates illustrated by Turner, as well as a folding facsimile.Known as the father of historical fiction, Scott's historically themed narrative poems were popular bestsellers, all of which, including Rokeby and The Lay of the Last Minstrel, feature in this extensive anthology. He was offered the position of pet laureate in 1813, but declined, seeing the role as a 'poisoned chalice'. In full maroon morocco. Externally, smart, with a couple of small marks to boards. Rubbing to joints, and to edges. Slight fading to the spine, and bumping to the head and tail of the spine, and to the extremities. Marble end papers are bright and clean, with minor wear to front end paper hinge. Internally, firmly bound.
