The central argument of Senault's work follows on from the preachings of St Augustine in that the only passion capable of moving man is love. Love itself takes on a myriad of passions. Senault argues in this work, that Original Sin is responsible for the disorder of man's emotions. His ultimate argument is that only combined grace and passion can redeem mankind. Written by Jean Francis Senault (1599-1672), the son of Pierre Senault who was the king's secretary. Jean Renault was a French Augustine philosopher and a preacher. In 1618, he joined the Jesus Oratory. Senault was an enigmatic preacher, studying theology for fifteen years. His well-written sermons were hugely popualr amongst the crowds he preached to. In a calf binding. Externally, with rubbing to extremities and spine. Small section of the spine cover absent near top. Wearing to back board and slight wearing to front board. Two front free-end papers and rear free end papers missing. Internally, firmly bound and pages bright and clean Very Good. book.
