Their appeal -- conjuring images of afternoons in homey tearooms or elegant gatherings in grand hotels -- is universal. But a new generation of teapots has stood tradition on its ear. As author Leslie Ferrin says, "Today the teapot has one foot in the kitchen and the other in the art world." "For the artist, making a teapot provides daunting challenges. As the various parts -- body, lid, handle, spout and foot -- are assembled, each creator must solve technical difficulties within the context of design, function and scale. As a result, teapots are the objects with which artists in all media demonstrate the heights of their technical and creative abilities." "Teapots Transformed: Exploration of an Object tells the tale of this art form, from the traditional, functional teapot to an eclectic mix of contemporary designs. The exhilarating collection is presented in more than 120 vivid full-color photographs. The book will delight tea drinkers around the world, while providing inspiration for artists and a visual feast for the growing number of teapot collectors. Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fine. 1st Edition. 213 pages illustrations 22 cm OCLC 3357034 ; LCCN 54005450 ; LC D787 .K613 1954 ; green cloth with red designs, in photographic dustjacket ; Heinz Knoke was a World War II Luftwaffe flying ace. He is credited with 33 confirmed aerial victories, all claimed over the Western theatre of operations, and claimed a further 19 unconfirmed kills in over 2,000 flights. His total included 19 heavy bombers of the United States Army Air Forces. ; "Heinz Knoke was one of the outstanding German fighter pilots of the Second World War and this vivid record of his experiences has become a classic among aviation memoirs. He joined the Luftwaffe on the outbreak of war, eventually becoming commanding officer of a fighter wing. An outstandingly brave and skilful fighter, he logged over two thousand flights, four hundred operational missions and was officially credited with thirty-three combat wins. He was awarded the Knight's Cross for his achievements." "I Flew for the Fuhrer reveals his intense patriotism and discipline. He describes his upbringing in the strict Prussian tradition, the impact of the coming of the Nazi regime, his wartime career and everyday life in the Luftwaffe, and the utter desolation he experienced when the end came and the war was lost.; In 1951 Heinz Knoke was elected to the legislature of Lower Saxony as a member of the Socialist Reich Party. He was a member of the Freie Demokratische Partei (FDP, Liberal Democratic Party), and was elected for the community parliament/parish parliament at the elections of October 1956, where he was returned to office in the March 1961, September 1964, and September 1968 elections. He retired in October 1972 and in the mid-1980s joined Osnabrück University to study literature and philosophy. His memoirs show his initial enthusiasm for the war, becoming grimmer and more demoralized at the beginning of 1944. In his last diary entries Knoke shows willingness to enter into an armistice with the Western Allies to continue the war against the USSR. ; FINE/FINE. Book.
