Textos e ilustraciones bucólicas -a medio camino entre la realidad y la imaginación- que transmiten la esencia del campo en el sur de China, con los niños y niñas transformando su relación con la naturaleza en un juego cotidiano y espontáneo. Los versos de Qingyun Huang atesoran el aroma de la flor de loto, el eco del canto de los gorriones y el alegre bullicio de los caminos. Destaca en el libro el hábil manejo de la técnica de la ?tinta derramada?, creada por Peilong Liang para actualizar el estilo del dibujo tradicional chino. Gracias a su dominio de la tinta, el pincel y el papel de arroz, el pintor va dejando caer gotas de tinta que dan forma a sus cuadros. El resultado es un dibujo abstracto, a base de manchas y líneas imperfectas que dan vida a sus personajes: niños con caras oblicuas, vestuarios difusos. . . Por la variedad de animales representados, vacas, búfalos, gallos y gansos surgen de manchones accidentados y velos de tinta apenas perceptibles. Las vetas de tinta forman las nubes, rocas y mariposas que vuelan escapando de los protagonistas infantiles. La traductora, Mónica Ching, estudió Ciencias de la Comunicación en la Ciudad de México y se especializó en Asia y África. Por sus raíces chinas se interesó en la lengua y la literatura clásica de ese país. Con el apoyo del Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes del gobierno mexicano, tradujo diversas obras, cuentos de autores contemporáneos y literatura infantil.
