Es esta, y no otra, proclámese con toda la pompa, la autobiografía autorizada por sus autores ?y desautorizada por sus protagonistas y delatores?: la oficial, la jibarizada, la más asequible y, sin duda, ?completamente diferente? a cualquier edición anterior de la misma. Un feliz arrebato de impudicia testamentaria que da noticia, a menudo con versiones de lo más contradictorias y dispares, de cuanto brotó de las muy enfermas mentes de tan mal avenido, irrepetible y añorado sexteto. Cuenta la leyenda que en 1969 d. B. (después de Brian), seis ingleses (bueno, uno era galés? y se coló en el cenáculo también un polizonte estadounidense) se dieron cita en el restaurante Light of Kashmir de Hampstead, en Londres, para acometer la redacción a doce manos del guion de una comedia televisiva por encargo de la BBC. Para tan noble fin decidieron escudarse tras la figura de un imaginario agente teatral sin escrúpulos, poco fiable y no menos fanfarrón que atendería al nombre de Monty Python. Y «se armó la gorda». Monty Python?s Flying Circus, desopilante serie zurcida a base de ingeniosas recreaciones, bullas inconexas, delirantes barbaridades y toda suerte de inanidades y animaciones preinfográficas, deformó, trituró y reescribió las reglas de la comedia televisiva británica, ahí es nada; y aún hoy en día, cuatrocientos años más tarde (bueno, poco menos de cincuenta, en realidad), sigue hablándose de semejante disturbio cómico en el universo mundo. A los célebres duelos futbolísticos entre las selecciones de meditabundos filósofos (griegos y alemanes), las recreaciones de grandes batallas interpretadas por aguerridas y muy respetables ancianas, y a la venta fraudulenta de animales domésticos difuntos, seguirían sus no menos célebres incursiones en el mundo del celuloide con Los caballeros de la mesa cuadrada y sus locos seguidores, La Vida de Brian o El sentido de la vida.
