Self-wrappers, 16 pp., stapled binding. Very good copy, staples rusting. Propper's first book. Rare. The Fable of the Final Hour captures in a jazzy rhythm the apocalyptic, despairing mood of the first generation to grow up with the possibility of a nuclear Armageddon. Propper (1907-2003) considered himself a second-generation Beat poet, inasmuch as he was influenced by Allen Ginsberg's Howl and by Kerouac, but he emerged only a short time after them. He rose in the jazz and poetry scene, held various jobs, and lived here and there before eventually settling down in upstate New York. There is a long hiatus between this booklet and his later publications.
