This set originally had 75 volumes but this collection incudes 5 volumes - 1,3,4,5 and 6. They were printed in 1790 and have most likely been rebound since then as…they now feature marbled covers which didn't come in until the 1800s. These editions have blank spines and would make a lovely addition to any home library and a great read for any fan of poetry. Originally published in 7 v…olumes as the 'Whittingham Edition' this rather unusual full leather set has been rebacked. The second title pages refer to be published in 7 volumes, however, this set is over 14 volumes, because of this the binder has duplicated 7 volumes with two lots of different tools down the 14 spines, with generic titles to all 14. Illustrated title pages to seven volumes, other illustrations throughout the 14 volumes. From the private library of Thomas Valentine Smith with his bookplate to each front paste down. Thomas Valentine Smith inherited Ardtornish House, Morvern, Lochaber from his father, he was a sportsman and a vicarious adventurer and enjoyed entertaining parties of like-minded guests.
