Hardback. Zustand: Very Good. Presumed First Edition. No stated date but understood to be 1914 and presumed first edition. 320pp., 5 black and white illustrations by Ernest Prater, (1864-1950), a noted English artist and book illustrator. There is a 32-page publisher's catalogue at the end of the book. John Edward Gunby Hadath (1871-1954) was an English schoolmaster, lawyer, songwriter, journalist, and a prolific writer. He is probably best remembered for his juvenile fiction, of which over two-thirds were set in English Public Schools. The book is bound in the original light-green cloth covered boards with titling and a coloured illustration on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and light soiling to the boards. The top of the spine is lightly bumped and there is heavier bumping to the bottom of the spine. The contents are tight and clean with fairly heavy foxing to the fore edge of the text block, and on some pages the foxing has seeped a little way into the fore margin. There is a little scattered light foxing elsewhere within the book, including the half-title and title pages. The catalogue at the end of the book is age-browned around the margins and the front free endpaper has been removed. Ernest Prater (illustrator).…
