Soft cover. Zustand: As New. India's nuclear deal with the United States has raised a political storm in New Delhi. The Left parties have argued that the deal involves a quid pro quo, and seriously undermines India's ability to pursue an independent foreign policy.//How does the deal fit in with a larger alliance between the two countries that covers economic, strategic, and military cooperation? Will the deal satisfactorily address India's energy needs, or will it lead to another Enron-type disaster? How does the Hyde Act passed by the US Congress run counter to the assurances given by the Prime Minister to the Indian Parliament in August 2006? What is the Defence Framework Agreement, and how has it led to steps like the Logistics Support Agreement and the Maritime Cooperation Pact? Why have joint military exercises with the United States gone up sharply since 2005, and why is the Left opposed to these? Should India partner the United States in its global 'democracy' enterprise? Does the National Common Minimum Programme of the UPA government say anything about a strategic tie-up with the US? How did the BJP-led NDA government seek to reverse the course of India's foreign policy, and how has the Congress-led UPA government taken the process further?

Soft cover. Zustand: New. Without a revolutionary theory, there can be no revolutionary movement. Lenin V.I. Lenin (1870 1924) took forward Marxist theory and practice in critical areas. Imperialism, the Highest Stage of Capitalism (1916) opened the strategic path for the revolutions of the twentieth century. The State and Revolution (1917) explained the necessity for the seizure of state power by the proletariat and for the replacement of the old state by a new state apparatus dominated by the proletariat. Two Tactics of Social Democracy in the Democratic Revolution (1905) pioneered the new strategic perspective of dovetailing the bourgeois-democratic revolution with the socialist revolution under the leadership of the working class. An equally important and crucial contribution by Lenin was his theory of organisation. Organisation, for Lenin, was not a technical question or a tactical issue. Organisation was integral to revolutionary theory. What is to be Done? (written in 1901 and published in 1902) elaborates on how an appropriate organisation alone can translate revolutionary theory into a revolutionary movement. Prakash Karat s Introduction explains the main arguments of Lenin s thick pamphlet his critique of an over-reliance on spontaneity in the working class struggles, which marks out the terrain of Economism; his elaboration of the idea of democratic centralism in party organisation; his idea of the vanguard, a party consisting of an advanced detachment of the working class. What is to be Done? is a core text that every student of Marxism and revolution must study.
Soft cover. Zustand: New. 1st Edition. V.I. Lenin's (1870-1924) role in 1917 captures a unique revolutionary moment. Lenin's entire corpus of writings in the eight months between the two revolutions offers a concrete lesson on the theory and practice of revolution. Some of the articles and speeches are written with a cool analytical mind, and some are written in feverish haste. Together they provide a unique view of how the revolution unfolded. Lenin was able to analyse the nature of inter-imperialist contradictions, coolly assess the correlation of class forces in Russia, see how the peasant masses were moving towards the revolutionary movement and set the "line of march" for the proletariat which had to lead the revolution. This was possible because even in exile Lenin kept in close contact with his party workers and the mass leaders. Their views and their tempo informed his writings at each turn. These writings of Lenin represent the culmination of theoretical and practical work which marks out Lenin as a revolutionary strategist, audacious planner of the socialist revolution and one who could set out the contours of a new State and society after the revolution. Prakash Karat's Introduction is a brilliant and lucid commentary on Lenin's theoretical and strategic breakthroughs.
