A political cartoon from the September 10, 1936 against Roosevelt pertaining to the idea that his policies are socialist and are taking away America from Americans complete with Soviets invading the United States. Unfortunately for the artist FDR won against Alf Landon by a landslide. An excellent example that captures the immediate zeitgeist of the political process during an integral part of American history.

Powers mentions William Randolph Hearst in his introduction. Still funny pieces, with little "Greek Chorus" figures joining in every cartoon.

First edition of Henri Becquerel's importent study of the magnetic substances in which he sets forth his discovery that "the magnetic rotation of the bodies is connected with their refractive index and with another function that varies with their specific magnetism". For the first time it was showed that there is a connexion between the rotatory power and the magnetic properties of matter.The volume contains other importent papers, more than 10 papers by , MARCELLIN BERTHELOT, mainly on Thermo-Chemistry.

First edition, first printing, association copy, inscribed on the front free endpaper, "To my son Christopher Hussey, who was there for part of the show and who will I hope carry on my own abiding interest in Japan and faith for her future. Alfred Rodman Hussey, Commander, USNR, Washington D.C. 17 March 1960". Hussey (1902-1964) served in the Government Section, Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers, during the post-war occupation of Japan. Following a period working in the Planning Unit, he became head of the Internal Affairs Unit and then the Governmental Powers Branch of the Governmental Powers Division, before being appointed as a special assistant to the head of the Government Section. Having helped draft the 1947 constitution, he wrote the sections in this report on the constitution (Section III) and the national executive (Section IV). He is mentioned by name on pages 102, 105, and 380-1 of Volume I, his name marked with a red pencil. In the index, he is mistakenly listed as "Alfred Rodney Hussey". The Hussey papers are held at the University of Michigan. 2 vols, quarto, pp. xxxvi, 1300. Illustrations, tables, and diagrams in text. Original blue cloth, spines and front covers lettered in gilt.
