Powell was a British glassmaker, associated with the Arts and Crafts Movement.Densely illustrated throughout with many in-text illustrations, a frontispiece, and a folding map. Collated, complete. In the original publisher's cloth binding and clipped dust wrapper. Externally, very smart. There is some minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine. The hinges are slightly strained but firm. The dust wrapper has some wear to the extremities and some closed tears which have been repaired. It is also age toned with some slight loss to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are very bright and clean. Very Good Indeed. book.

Final script for the 1934 pre-Code film musical, seen here under the working title "Hot Air," but with the final title "Twenty Million Sweethearts" embossed on the front board of the binding. Specially bound copy belonging to screenwriter Jerry Wald, with his name in gilt on the front board, and his annotations in manuscript ink on the distribution page, noting the names of actors in the film. Jerry Wald is best remembered for his long and successful association with Warner Brothers as both a screenwriter and producer of a number of notable films, including "Mildred Pierce" (1945), "Humoresque" (1946), "Key Largo" (1948), and "Flamingo Road" (1949). In the 1950s he moved to Twentieth Century-Fox, and was the producer there for "An Affair to Remember" (1957), "Peyton Place" (1957), and "Sons and Lovers" (1960). A pre-Code comedy following a singing waiter on his rise to fame as a radio star, aided by his wife, whose own career in radio is flagging, and a dishonest agent. Ginger Rogers' performance as the waiter's wife was widely praised, and subsequently proved to be her breakthrough role. Bound in full red leather, with gilt titles on the spine and front board. Distribution page present, dated 12/20/33, noted as FINAL and stamped copy No. 84, with receipt intact. Title page integral with the distribution page. 128 leaves, with last page of text numbered 121. Mimeograph duplication, rectos only, with blue revision pages throughout, dated 1/15/34. The full color photo print of the famed photograph taken on January 10, 1977 of the 9 US Supreme Court justices casually sitting or leaning on a set of library tables is signed in the lower margin, "John Paul Stevens," "Lewis F. Powell, Jr.," "Harry A. Blackmun," "William H. Rehnquist," "ThurgoodÂMarshall," "Warren E. Burger," Wm J. Brennan, Jr.," "Potter Stewart," and "Byron R. White." The image measures 17 inches by 11.25 inches. The entire piece measures 20 inches by 15.25 inches. Rare and desirable. An attractive and amusing image of this important court which presided over a number of issues relating to equality and freedom. The US Supreme Court led by Warren Burger is remembered for landmark decisions such as Roe v. Wade (1973), New York Times vs. United States (1971, allowing for the publication of the Pentagon Papers); and United States v. Nixon (1974, rejecting Nixon's claim of executive privilege in regard to the Watergate scandal). This photograph was taken on January 10, 1977, and is referred to as the "first casual portrait of the US Supreme Court.
