No other marks or writing to be found. Overall good condition. This book is from the collection of Thomas Lovejoy. Dr. Lovejoy was an influential ecologist, field biologist, and activist; former head of the Amazon Biodiversity Center, World Wildlife Fund, and advisor to the United Nations and Smithsonian Institution. He is credited with introducing the term biological diversity to the mainstream environmental movement. In addition, he was a passionate collector of books on the natural world. Original red cloth with gilt title on the spine and gilt and black title on the front board. = The updated and expanded edition of a work first published in parts. Still the best work on the snakes of East Africa. Written by the British game warden, conservationist, and herpetologist Charles Robert Senhouse Pitman (1890-1975). The plates are very good. Bookseller's label and a few glue remnants on the front pastedown; small number written in the top margin of the front free endpaper recto. Otherwise, an excellent, clean copy.

Possibley published for presentation or for sale in a limited print run. the preface notes "each of the regional contributors has been prepared by a field naturalist selected for his recent and specialist knowledge" etc., Hill covers the evolution of the African Elephant, Barker The Elephants in Sudan, Stockley The Elephants In Kenya, Pitman The Elephants In Uganda, Offerman the Elephant In The Belgian Congo, Rushby The Elephant In Tanganyika, Gowers the African Elephant In History. there are occasional references to hunting experiences, poaching etc. A scarce and unusual book and more so being a Rowland Ward publication.
