Here is another of the well-illustrated travel books by Adam & Charles Black of London and supposedly a bit scarce in the book trade (which would not surprise as Pompeii has always been one of the special destinations for travelers to Italy). Please find: Pompeii painted by Alberto Pisa and described by W. M. MacKenzie. This medium-sized hard cover book (6 ¾ x 8 ¾ x 1 ¾ inches, 180 pages plus 25 unnumbered plates and a fold-out sketch map of the excavations) is bound in finely ribbed, sky blue boards with gilt titles and decorations on cover and spine. The 20 full-page, color plates are protected by captioned tissue-guards. Condition: This book is in very good condition. There are some bruises to the leading edge of the front cover and a few very light blemishes to the finish of the boards front and back. The front board seems to be a bit sprung to me. Inside the former owners have left their neat book plate and there is some light foxing on the early pages and the rear endpaper (acid of the binding glues). The interior pages are bright and clean without toning or foxing. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.…
