The only evidence of handwriting found is on the front end page we could just make out where an old store price was penciled in the corner and then later erased. An attractive copy graded as VG+, bordering on near fine condition.

NaV - Erste Ausgabe (Deutsch) - Die Geschichten von den 'Sternkindern' sind die Schicksale jüdischer Kinder aus Holland, aufgezeichnet von Clara Asscher-Pinkhof, die als Lehrerin 2 Jahre lang bis 1943 an einer jüdischen Schule in Amsterdam unterrichtete und dann freiwillig diese Schulkinder in das Lager Bergen-Belsen begleitete. Im Juli wurden sie und 250 andere Juden ausgetauscht und nach Palästina geschickt. Das Buch von den 'Sternkindern' berichtet in 64 kurzen Abschnitten Einzelschicksale, Geschichten von Kindern, die auf ihren Jacken und Mänteln einen gelben Stern tragen müssen, weil sie älter als 6 Jahre sind und Juden. Übersetzung von Wilhelm Niemeyermit einem Vorwort von: Kästner, Erich;

Zustand: Good. First Edition. Ruim zestig jaar geleden verscheen Van twee joodsche vragertjes van 'juf' Clara Asscher-Pinkhof. Het was bedoeld om bij het joodse godsdienstonderwijs te gebruiken; als een boekje om over te praten en om vragen mee te ontlokken. De Eva en Jacob uit dit boekje stellen vele vragen. Vragen die betrekking hebben op het joodse leven, de sjabbat, de feestdagen, de synagogediensten, enz. Rabbijn I. Vorst schreef de inleiding bij deze herdruk van het boekje, dat generaties joodse kinderen vertrouwd maakte met de gebruiken uit het joodse leven. Clara Asscher-Pinkhof en rabbijn I. Vorst waren geen vreemden voor elkaar: tijdens de oorlog zaten ze samen in Westerbork. In haar boek Sterrenkinderen schreef ze over hem als dat kleine jongetje, dat voor de deur van de school in het kamp Westerbork een Hebreeuws liedje (Ashr?noe, gelukkig zijn wij) zingt - niet begrijpend, onbewust. Over de door hem geschreven inleiding zei Clara Asscher-Pinkhof: 'Het is een gedicht, waarvan ieder woord mij iets te zeggen had. Ik heb het gelezen en herlezen en ik besefte opnieuw hoe 'n gezegend vak het mijne is en was: het vak van schooljuffrouw. Als je op 82-jarige leeftijd duidelijk wordt gemaakt, dat niets van het contact in de veelbewogen 40 jaar die sindsdien verliepen, verloren is gegaan tussen het vijfjarig jongetje van toen en de moeder-schooljuffrouw die ik toen mocht zijn, dan weet je: het is de moeite waard geweest.'.
