Apollinaire was a member of the artistic circle of Sonia and Robert Delaunay, and he coined the term Orphism to describe the use of pure abstraction pioneered by the two artists.Orphism aimed to express the ideals of Simultanism - the existence of an infinitude of interrelated states of being. This concept is fundamental to Sonia Delaunay's work, a fact which is alluded to by the authors in their dedication.
