In den WarenkorbOriginal Blue Cloth Boards. Zustand: Very Good. First Edition. 1887. First edition. 240pp. plus a 16 page publisher's catalogue. James Hyslop (1798-1827) was a Scottish poet who started life as a shepherd in Muirkirk, Ayrshire. He later became a schoolmaster, tutor on board ship, reporter in London, and later returned to teaching. He died of fever off Cape Verde. This book is the first complete collection his poems to be published and contains an extensive sketch of his life and notes on his poems by Rev. Peter Mearns of Coldstream. The book is bound in the original blue cloth covered bevelled boards with gold titling on the front board and spine. It is in very good condition with shelf wear and some staining and soiling on the boards. The spine is darkened and the spine ends are bumped. The contents are tight and clean with an inscription from the editor on the half-title page that reads: "The Rev. John Beveridge, B.D. with the Editor's kind regards. Peter Mearns. Coldstream Nov. 21, 1888.". Inscribed and Signed by Editor.
